Our Mission

HJM Foundation has a mission to open web3 technology and NFTs to underserved communities like foster youth and children healing from trauma.

We believe in providing equitable access to mentorship, whether it's skills training, technology, art and music instruction or collaboration on projects, for children healing from trauma and youth in the foster care system or from other underserved communities.

New technology can be a vehicle to increased independence and growing a community of support for the kids we serve. The something that we think is missing in the current sphere of mentorship for current/former foster youth, art, coding and community, will be filled right here with your help.

Why Mentorship?

3 out of 4 teenagers and young adults today lack a mentor and for foster youth that can be as many as 9 out of 10. Adding a positive adult role model to a young person's life can make an immeasurable difference in their success. We provide mentors from our volunteer community to meet with youth and build a relationship that lasts well beyond a day in the outdoors or talking about art and technology. Volunteer today to make a life long difference in a young person's life or help us fund our mission to serve children in need.

Mentors help in many ways, tutoring could be one.

Skills Training

Volunteers teach youth and young adults great skills focusing on art, music and/or technology. This helps in building confidence to get hands on in paired one on one interactions or group settings. Additionally, shared skills can include anything else depending on the interests of each participant. What skills can you bring to help a young person succeed in the market?

About the Founder

My name is Matthew Goodrich and I have volunteered for 8 years with children who have special needs, and youth and teens who have experienced foster care, homelessness and many other traumas. I serve the San Diego, CA community as a surf therapy coach, a mentor, and an instructor in many facets including surfing, art, music and technology for Urban Surf 4 Kids, a non-profit founded in 2009 as well as Stella Maris Surf Association and other non-profits.

In 2021 I founded HJM Foundation to expand the ability of the youth I serve from underserved communities access to digital tools and mentorship to turn their passions for art and music into NFTs with the help of others from the community.

I have been a Web Developer since 2007 and a Software Engineer since 2012 focusing on UI and animation. In 2017 I overheard some co-workers talking about cryptocurrencies and started to invest time and money into projects.

I started developing Web3 apps as a hobby in mid 2021 and left my full-time job in July 2021 to focus on Web3 and new technology. Since April 2022 I've worked as a contract Web3 developer for NiftyKit.com with an amazing team of professionals building no-code tools for creators.
